Import Materials from Excel to SharpeSoft Estimator

SharpeSoft Estimator offers users the ability to freely and easily import table items from their old Excel worksheets into the Estimator environment with just a few clicks. The example in this blog will focus on material items and the Materials table, but the same basic process is applicable for all other SharpeSoft table items.


How to:


  • First we will find the Excel document to be imported into the Estimator system. Below is a screenshot of what the data in our example document is constructed like.

  • If you are working in the SharpeSoft cloud environment, there is one extra step to be done before importing can be completed. If you are working on-premise, proceed to the next step.

  • Inside the Estimator, click on the Cloud Toolbar located at the top of the screen.

  • Click on the button labelled From PC to Server to send the Excel document to the cloud environment.


  • Now in the Materials table, right-click anywhere in the table to open the context menu.

  • Select Import from Excel.

  • The Open Excel Spreadsheet window will open. Select the document you wish to export, then press Open.


  • Next the Import from Excel window will open.

  • Align the source file fields to map to the correct import field name. The names do not have to be exact, nor are you required to have every field filled at this time; missing information can be entered later once the import has been completed.

  • Select Start Import to finish.



Note: If you are importing from a document with an example row like the example in this blog, your actual data will begin on row 2. Be sure to adjust the Start row in the Rows to import field based on your specific document.

Additional Note: If you've created groups or material data in your spreadsheet that don't align with SharpeSoft's structure, it's best to clear the existing material data and groups from SharpeSoft (if any), then re-import the material data to ensure it matches your desired structure.
