Alternate Methods to Bid Fuel Usage in SharpeSoft Estimator

For certain operations, tracking relevant fuel costs for each piece of equipment for a given project may be somewhat difficult to track. Whether you are running smaller crews with workers wearing multiple hats, or larger fleets of equipment assigned to multiple different areas of work, the SharpeSoft Estimator provides users with multiple different options for making sense of these important, if somewhat tricky to manage costs.

The method used in the video above is forbidding fuel usage as an Other item.

This blog will explore an alternative method to accomplish the same task listed above by bidding fuel usage as an Other item.

How to:

  • Click on the Tables menu on the toolbar. Select Other Items from the dropdown menu.

  • Inside the Other Items window, select Insert.

  • Select the magnifying glass to choose a Group.

  • Select Insert inside the Other Groups window.

  • Create a group to be used to represent fuel that works for you; "Fuel" for the Code and "Diesel" for the description, etc.

  • Once the group has been created, it can be inserted into the Bid Item Detail View of any bid item, shown below.

  • Inside the bid item you wish to add your newly created Fuel group, select the Other Items button from the Detail View Toolbar.

  • Select Fuel.

  • Input how much fuel total that was used for the duration of the job.

Note that this method does not currently allow for users to apply markups to fuel items input this way, nor do the individuated fuel costs appear on the Job Equipment Report.
