Drag-and-Drop Bid Items in SharpeSoft Estimator

While creating bid items in the SharpeSoft Estimator is quick and easy, as already shown, sometimes there's no need to bother with the process of making a brand new bid item when an appropriate one already exists somewhere else in the job.

Dragging-and-dropping is the solution to this problem; Estimator allows for free manipulation of data when it comes to moving specific bid items throughout the Bid Item window. Keep reading for some helpful tips and tricks on how to make the most of this tool!

Different Actions Require Different Inputs

Shift+Click+Drag

This is the most basic method by which users can directly move bid items throughout the window. Simply hold the Shift button before clicking on an item, and you will be able to move it anywhere in the bid item list that you want.

Users can also directly move items into groups. To do so, Shift+Click+Drag and then place your cursor on the title of the group you wish to move it to before letting go of the mouse. Note that an item moved into a group will retain its original item number.

This function also extends to the tree view in the Bid Item window, as well as between bid items and sub-items. Freely move bid items to sub-items, or sub-items to bid items. Bid items must originally have sub-item information already in order to drag-and-drop to and from this position.

Ctrl+Click+Drag

Similar to the above method, however Ctrl+Click+Drag does not move the selected item somewhere else. Instead, the selected item is instantly copied, then pasted to the area after letting go of the mouse. Note that the original bid item that was copied will still be in its original space.

Copy and Paste

The most tried and true method! Copy and paste bid items either by right-clicking on an item and then selecting Copy Bid Item in the context menu, or use keyboard shortcuts to copy (Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V).
