Linking Equipment to Labor in SharpeSoft Estimator

Linking labor to a piece of equipment is a quick and easy way to tie two frequently used items together. You can link labor and equipment in two ways. Here in the Labor table you link equipment to labor. In the Equipment table you can link labor to equipment.

How to:

  • Select the Tables menu from the toolbar.

  • Select either the Labor or Equipment menu from the dropdown. For this example we will use the Labor table, but the processes stipulated are the same for Equipment.

  • In the Labor table, find the item you wish to link a piece of equipment to. The Labor table has a column labeled Equipment, indicating if a labor item is associated with a piece of equipment already, as well as the specific equipment code.

  • To tie piece of equipment to a laborer, enter the equipment code by typing it directly into the column or click the drop down arrow and choose a code from the Select Equipment Group window.  If you enter an equipment code that the system does not recognize, you will be given the option to add it.

  • We will now add a laborer, in this case Loader Operator Group 3, to the current job. The labor item has been linked with a Komatsu WA 250 Loader, as indicated by the equipment code in the Equipment column. Dragging the laborer into the job from the bid item detail window will also automatically add the piece of equipment as well. Note that either the laborer or the piece of equipment can be individually deleted from the job after being inserted.

Helpful Tip: If you have a foreman who would always need his pickup truck, you would link this piece of equipment to the foreman in the Labor table so they are always brought into the job detail together. However, you would not necessarily take a truck and link a foreman to it. There are many instances in the job detail where you would need a truck, but you wouldn't want the foreman linked to it. As you can see, depending on what you need and where you need it, it will determine how you link your equipment and labor.
