Nearly 50 years ago, Warren E Gomes got his start in the construction business when he bought a backhoe and trailer from his father and started doing foundational footings for retail center projects. From those humble beginnings, Gomes has spent the last four and a half decades expanding and growing his namesake business in multiple ways to become a top rated Northern California heavy civil contractor.
Over the years, Gomes’ keen eye for spotting industry trends has played a key role in moving the company in profitable directions. In the 1970s, Gomes recognized the ascendance of natural gas development in California and expanded his company to include gasfield work. Later, he added vacuum truck services to haul production water and drilling mud from drilling sites.
As the 1990s approached, Gomes anticipated the boom in California housing market and began offering site development for large housing projects
A decade later the company waded into wetlands restoration, using amphibious equipment for both large and small-scale projects. In fact, the company played a key role in the restoration of California’s Napa-Sonoma Marshes Wildlife area, which was one of the largest wetlands restoration projects in U.S. history.
The company also provides levee construction and maintenance, and installs pumping stations and drainage systems.
Most recently, Gomes began offering turnkey grading and paving services for roadways, parking lots, building pads and large landscaping projects.
If not all of that is enough, the company also specializes in lowbed heavy equipment hauling and concrete and asphalt recycling.
Gomes also is a firm believer in giving back to his community and the company regularly provides funding and services to local schools, Little League, youth livestock programs, and other organizations. Recently, they were among the largest contributors to a major remodeling of the Simonsen Delta Swim Center in Rio Vista.
After nearly 50 years, Warren Gomes is still at the helm of his Rio Vista, CA business. However, today he is helped by his sons - Warren Jr., who joined the company in 1991 and serves as company vice president – and Quinn who is the company’s operations manager.
