Personalization Options in SharpeSoft Estimator (Part 1)

SharpeSoft Estimator, in addition to being a powerful and efficient cost estimating solution for companies of all sizes, also offers extensive personalization options for various fields and windows inside the program. This series will be exploring multiple personalization options at a time, logically grouped together for convenience based on need. 


To access the Personalization window:

  • Click on the Defaults menu from the main menu bar.

  • Select Preferences.

  • Inside the User and System Preferences window, select the Personalization tab.


Personalization Window in General

This window lists the different areas of the system where items, records and reports are highlighted in color, either on your computer screen and/or in the report itself. In most cases, you can customize these colors to your own preference using this tab. An explanation of each of these settings is listed below.


Data Entry/Reports tabs

This panel contains two tabs that display all of the items, records and reports that have a system default color assigned to them. The Data Entry tab lists all of the information related settings, while the Reports tab lists all of the report or default texts that can be assigned a custom color. To see the current default, click on the item in either list, then note the colors that appear in the Foreground, Background and Color Sample boxes.


Reset selected Color Only

Click this button to reset the highlighted item in the Record List back to its original default color.


Discard all custom colors

Click on this button to reset ALL items in the Record List back to their original default color.


Foreground and Background colors

These two fields show the current color for both the foreground and background of the highlighted item in either the Data Entry or Reports record tabs.


Color Sample

This panel shows how the foreground and background colors appear on the screen.


No Wallpaper

Click this box if you do not want any wallpaper displayed on your desk top.


Wallpaper Options

To change the desktop wallpaper, enter a new image file name in this field, or click Search Select image file to choose a picture from your own image library

Sample Bid Item (Detail) Window

  • Inactive List Selected Item: The List Item that was most previously highlighted by the mouse with a single click.

  • Top Level Bid-Item: The highest level of bid item. All bid items are originally entered as Top Level Bid-Items before detail is added.

  • Parent Bid Item: The bid item to which the detail is being attributed to. Not all bid items have both a Top Level and Parent Bid Item.

  • Crew/Assembly Detail Records: Functions like a group heading; everything below the Crew/Assembly Detail Record is treated as a member of that crew/assembly.

  • No Matching Code in Table: Appears when an item code is entered that does not match anything in the item's associated cost type table.
